In recent years, Ellen DeGeneres, who moved to the UK after Donald Trump\u2019s re-election, has been largely focused on her own health.<\/p>\n
Osteoporosis: Feeling \u201clike a human sandcastle\u201d<\/h2>\n DeGeneres first discovered she had osteoporosis, a condition that weakens bones and makes them more prone to fractures, after a bone density test.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t even know how I\u2019m standing up right now. I\u2019m like a human sandcastle. I could disintegrate in the shower,\u201d she joked.<\/p>\n
She recalled experiencing sudden, \u201cexcruciating pain\u201d and initially fearing she had torn a ligament. Early scans suggested arthritis, but further testing confirmed osteoporosis. Reflecting on aging, she added:<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s hard to be honest about aging and seem cool.\u201d<\/p>\n
As if osteoporosis wasn\u2019t enough, Ellen revealed she was also diagnosed with arthritis.<\/p>\n
\u201cI had excruciating pain one day and I thought I tore a ligament or something, and I got an MRI and they said, \u2018No, it\u2019s just arthritis.\u2019 I said, \u2018How did I get that?\u2019 And he said, \u2018Oh it just happens at your age,\u2019\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s hard to be honest about aging and seem cool,\u201d she confessed.<\/p>\n
OCD: Organized, but compulsive<\/h2>\n Alongside her physical health challenges, DeGeneres shared insights into her mental health. Therapy revealed she has OCD, which causes compulsive behaviors and over-focusing on certain tasks.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was in therapy for a while trying to deal with all the hatred that was coming at me,\u201d she shared. \u201cAnd you know, it was not a common situation for a therapist to deal with.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI may have OCD because a therapist said so and I said, \u2018Yes I am very organized,\u2019 because I thought that was the O. \u201cI was raised in a religion, Christian Science, that doesn\u2019t acknowledge diseases or disorders. So when I was growing up, nobody talked about anything.\u201d<\/p>\n
She also believes her father showed similar behaviors:<\/p>\n
\u201cHe would check the doorknob 15 times before we\u2019d leave, he\u2019d check the faucet 15 times, he would unplug all the appliances before we left the house because lightning could strike and it could catch fire. They say it could be hereditary.\u201d<\/p>\n
ADHD: Struggle to focus<\/h2>\n DeGeneres also revealed she has\u00a0ADHD<\/strong>, a neurodevelopmental disorder affecting focus, impulse control, and attention span.<\/p>\n\u201cSo, I have ADD, I have OCD, I\u2019m losing my memory,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut I think I\u2019m well-adjusted because I obsess on things, but I don\u2019t have the attention span to stick with it, and I quickly forget what I was obsessing about in the first place. So, it takes me all the way around to being well-adjusted, I think.\u201d<\/p>\n
Reflections on fame and public scrutiny<\/h2>\n The Netflix special also touched on DeGeneres\u2019 decision to step back from the limelight following the controversies surrounding her talk show. She reflected on public criticism and life in the spotlight:<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen you\u2019re a public figure, you\u2019re open to everyone\u2019s interpretation\u2026 But you know the truth and that\u2019s all that matters.\u201d<\/p>\n
As previously mentioned, the former talk show host is now living a quieter life in the English countryside, months after she and her wife, Portia de Rossi, quietly relocated to the UK.<\/p>\n
The couple have kept a relatively low profile since leaving Montecito, California, following Donald Trump\u2019s election victory in 2024, and settling in the Cotswolds.<\/p>\n
