Savannah Guthrie\u2019s \u201cToday\u201d co-anchor\u00a0Craig Melvin\u00a0also reported on the utility box development during the\u00a0March 9 show.<\/p>\n<p>However, when reached by USA TODAY on March 9, a spokesperson for the sheriff\u2019s office said, \u201cInvestigators have told us there is nothing to indicate that the utility box would be related to the case.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Melvin also mentioned previous NBC News reporting, which shares a parent company with the \u201cToday\u201d show, about nearby homeowners reportedly experiencing internet issues the night Guthrie went missing.<\/p>\n<p>USA TODAY has reached out to the FBI for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Guthrie has\u00a0not been seen since Saturday, Jan. 31. She was first reported missing the following day, on Feb. 1. The Pima County Attorney\u2019s Office\u2019s anonymous tip line 88-CRIME has put out its own $102,500 reward.<\/p>\n<h2>Investigators says suspect\u2019s backpack is \u2018promising\u2019 evidence<\/h2>\n<p>A Feb. 12\u00a0social media post\u00a0from the FBI noted the suspect was seen with \u201ca black, 25-liter \u2018Ozark Trail Hiker Pack\u2019 backpack.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Though investigators are looking at this backpack as \u201cone of the most promising leads,\u201d as Nanos previously said, the sheriff has noted its exclusivity to Walmart \u2013 previously seen as a lead for authorities to pursue by subpoenaing the big-box retailer \u2013 does not rule out the option that the suspect purchased it secondhand elsewhere.<\/p>\n<h2>The status of DNA testing in Nancy Guthrie\u2019s case<\/h2>\n<p>Gloves discovered near Guthrie\u2019s home, which were seen as a possible lead in the investigation into the 84-year-old woman\u2019s suspected kidnapping, resulted in a dead end.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSheriff Nanos stated in a recent interview that the black gloves found approximately 2 miles away from Nancy Guthrie\u2019s home were traced back via DNA analysis to a person who works at a restaurant in the area,\u201d the Pima County Sheriff\u2019s Department said in a March 4 statement to USA TODAY.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat person is not considered part of this investigation,\u201d the statement continued. \u201cLab analysis remains underway on other DNA evidence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Authorities previously said the gloves appeared, visually, to\u00a0match those worn\u00a0by a man whom the FBI has\u00a0called a suspect\u00a0in the case after he was captured in\u00a0surveillance footage at Guthrie\u2019s home.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, in a Feb. 17 update, the sheriff\u2019s department shared there \u201cwere no DNA hits in CODIS,\u201d or the FBI\u2019s national DNA database, from the gloves. The DNA also did not match samples collected from Guthrie\u2019s home.<\/p>\n<p>Law enforcement previously confirmed the discovery of\u00a0DNA in Guthrie\u2019s home that does not belong to her\u00a0or her inner circle.
